Short-Term Faculty-Led:

Summer Digital Reflection of Korea
Seoul, Korea
This class will challenge students to think critically about Korean culture, art, media, politics, and history related to their own perspectives. By the end of the course, students will be able to appreciate how the history of Korean cultures relates to the modern and global city in relation to society, as well as the dislocation of works of art in museums and galleries. Students will have a deeper understanding of Korean culture, history, theory, and practices involved in art, design, and media.

Summer Sustainable Cities: Zurich
Zurich, Switzerland
The overarching goal of the course is to provide students with an opportunity to do field-based research on various topics relating to sustainable urban and transportation planning.  Methods will include standard qualitative approaches such as structured and unstructured interviews and direct observation.  Research findings will be documented in a short film which the students will design, shoot, edit and produce during their time in the field. Communication students will develop professional skills working in an interdisciplinary group of students to create a film, an experience that can be used when interviewing for future jobs or applying to graduate or professional school. 

AIFS Rome January
Rome, Italy
The AIFS Abroad January Term program in Rome offers students a three-week immersive experience in the heart of the Eternal City. Participants can earn three semester credits by enrolling in courses such as architecture, Italian language and culture, psychology, intercultural communication, strategic management, religion, and sociology. Classes are held at the AIFS Global Education Center, centrally located within walking distance of iconic sites like the Trevi Fountain and the Colosseum.

AIFS Salamanca Summer
Salamanca, Spain
The AIFS Abroad Summer Program in Salamanca, Spain, offers students the chance to study at the historic University of Salamanca, earning up to 11 credits over 3 to 10 weeks. Courses are available in both English and Spanish, with housing options including local host families or shared apartments. The program features cultural activities like cooking classes, tapas tours, and flamenco performances, along with excursions to Portugal, Mogarraz, and La Alberca, plus an optional trip to Morocco. Comprehensive support services, including an on-site Resident Director, are provided to enhance the study abroad experience.

Semester and Academic Year exchanges in Wales, a train ride away from London. Cardiff’s rich culture combines the attractions of a big city with the charms of an easily accessible small city. Students can take courses at the School for English, Communication, and Philosophy, in addition to other subjects depending on interest. Past course titles include Marketing, Branding & Promotional Cultures in Television, Media Discourse, and Communicating in Relationships.

Florence, Italy
This semester-length program has many communication and journalism courses available, including opportunities for experiential learning outside of the classroom. Niche topics within communication include fashion, social media, food, travel writing, and tour guiding. Past course titles include Social Media, Social Food; Intercultural Communication; Fashion, Media & Communication; Writing for the Media & Social Media: Journalism & Public Relations.

East China Normal University
Shanghai, China
East China Normal University (ECNU) offers Semester and Academic Year exchanges in Shanghai, China, a city known for its rich history and modern vibrancy. As one of China’s top institutions, ECNU provides a supportive academic environment with a focus on education, arts, and sciences. The university’s courses include Chinese language, international business, and social sciences. TEAN: Semester in Vietnam
Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
This university is known for its cutting-edge technology and design programs that provide plenty of practical training and hands-on practice. The modern Vietnam campus draws students particularly interested in Fashion, Digital Design (like 3D animation), Business, Communications, and Hospitality and Tourism. Students will become immersed in the buzzing city that blends Chinese and French Colonial influences with contemporary Vietnamese culture. Course topics include communication studies, film, mass communication, media studies, media/multimedia, new media, and public relations.

Semester at Sea
Semester at Sea is a unique study abroad program that takes students on a multi-country voyage aboard a floating campus, the MV World Odyssey. Over the course of a semester, students visit 10–12 destinations across several continents while taking accredited courses from a diverse faculty. The program emphasizes global comparative studies, experiential learning, and cultural immersion through fieldwork and service opportunities. With a strong focus on global citizenship and cross-cultural understanding, Semester at Sea provides an unparalleled educational adventure that blends academic coursework with real-world exploration.

CEPA Intercultural Leadership Program
Strasbourg, France
The CEPA Intercultural Leadership Summer Program offers students an immersive experience at the historic Château de Pourtalès in Strasbourg, France. Combining academic coursework with hands-on training, students develop leadership skills through classes at the European Study Center, guest lectures, and excursions to cultural, governmental, and business institutions in France and Germany. The program covers key topics such as human rights, mediation, dispute resolution, and intercultural negotiation, preparing students for leadership roles in a globalized world. Participants earn six U.S. credits, with official transcripts provided, along with housing, daily breakfast, and access to exclusive European Study Center events.

Finances are an integral part of the program selection and planning process. Students should research scholarships early to meet application deadlines and request essay feedback from advisors and the Writing Center.
